Flag of SaskatchewanJanuary, 1999 to date.

In 1999, the Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan opted for a database and Internet-friendly neutral citation system: S.K.Q.B.

It may be presented in a database-friendly format: "SKQB".

Now, all cases chosen for release to the public are assigned a permanent SKQB number with the four-digit year followed by the SKQB and then a sequentially assigned number.

The first decision of the Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan to be assigned a permanent SKQB legal citation:

Lachance v. Auzano Asset Management Inc., 1999 SKQB 1

The SKQB was created in 1907 as the Supreme Court of Saskatchewan but changed to the Court of King's Bench in 1918 and later, with the accesssion of Queen Elizabeth, to the Court of Queen's Bench.

Unless otherwise noted, this article was written by Lloyd Duhaime, Barrister, Solicitor, Attorney and Lawyer (and Notary Public!). It is not intended to be legal advice and you would be foolhardy to rely on it in respect to any specific situation you or an acquaintance may be facing. In addition, the law changes rapidly and sometimes with little notice so from time to time, an article may not be up to date. Therefore, this is merely legal information designed to educate the reader. If you have a real situation, this information will serve as a good springboard to get legal advice from a lawyer.
